Rachel Kiwanuka was born on November 1st, 1986 in Tulsa, Oklahoma; U.S.A.
Rachel is the youngest and the only girl out of four children and has always had a natural talent for singing and dancing.
While living in California, Rachel always joined talent shows, competitions, and enrolled herself in a performing arts school. As she got into her teenage years, she was always known for her singing skills. In high school she participated in advanced women’s choir, theatre, and dance. She has been successful in dance as well, professionally trained in ballet, tap, salsa, African, jazz, and her most favorite hip hop, She also choreographed for her mother, Halima Namakula one of Uganda’s leading female artists.
Rachel even auditioned for American Idol in 2005, she didn’t make it, but that didn’t stop her from achieving her dreams. “It was a great experience and it only made me work harder and realized that there are other ways to make it successfully.” Quotes Rachel. In February of 2006 she moved to Kampala, Uganda to focus on her future as an artist.
She has already put in 5 years as a professional vocalist, song writer, TV presenter, producer, social worker, actress, dancer, and choreographer. “There’s no other road for me to take,” declares this Ugandan American born-and-raised artist.
In early 2006, Rachel Kiwanuka went to just Rachel Kay and worked in the studio. She has recorded and released four singles “Every Time I look Around”, “Maisha” “Unaniumiza” and she featured in local artiste Karyn's hit song "I love the way.” She also featured a few artists from her twelve track-album, Fusion, which is being produced by Henry Kiwuwa and Uncle Denno of No-End Entertainment. Rachel Kay says she strives to be, “One of those artists that can appeal to everyone, with a great resume of work that can be appreciated for years.”
Rachel Kay formed her music taste and talents growing up in the states along side her family whom encouraged her to never give up. Rachel Kay comes from a very musical background and always had her family behind everything she was doing. “Now residing in Uganda has made me a stronger person and also a better artist, I get to experience and take in a great diversity of music including some of the most uplifting local tunes,” the twenty one year old secession declare.
“I’ve taken all the things that I’ve learned, all of my accomplishments and life experiences and formed them into who I am as an artist.” After spending time working and growing as an artist, it is apparent to all… That it is time for Rachel Kay to seek out a major Label.
With her debut R&B single “Every time I look Around” it‘s obvious, that Rachel Kay’s career as a musician is headed for great success. Expect a lot from Rachel in the months and years to come.
